Civic Act: International Day Against Child Labor, Value: Justice
On June 2nd, 8th Orange held the ceremony related to the commemoration of the International Day Against Child Labor. The United Nations (UN) declared June 12th as the World Day Against Child Labor.
This day invites us to reflect and take action so that children around the world can develop in a full and integral way. Child labor is considered a violation of children’s rights, as many minors are involved in different forms of work that are harmful to their lives. Such activities have a negative impact on the physical, mental, social, and educational development of children. In light of this situation, it is imperative to take the necessary measures to eradicate this reality.
On this World Day, we call for the full ratification of ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for admission to employment and the implementation of ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labor. Their effective ratification and implementation remain essential to achieving the objectives set by the Durban Call to Action, which urges us to strengthen prevention, protection, and partnerships to eliminate child labor.
Justice, as a value, is essential for a fair and balanced society. It means giving each person what they deserve, respecting the rights of others, and treating everyone with impartiality and equity. Justice promotes peace, equality, and social stability by ensuring that individuals are treated with respect and dignity.
